California Portrait growshop™ - May 11-12, 2013
california portrait growshop - may 11-12, 2013
"Portraiture from the Heart" is an two-day, hands-on small group photography mentoring session. I teach on a variety of subjects with a focus on natural light portraiture, as well as my philosophy and heart behind my photography. I challenge students to create compelling images that move the heart, not just the mind.
The first day of the growshop™ will be split into two segments. The first segment is in lecture format, wrapping up with a hand-on photography session working indoors with available light. The second segment is at an outdoor location, where students have another hands-on photography session with a variety of subjects. I first demonstrate concepts covered in the lecture, such as working with different types of light, connecting with your subjects, and natural posing techniques. After the demonstration, it's the students' turn to run the shoot, as I coach participants, helping them apply what they have learned.
The second day will start with individual image critiques from each student's photos from day one. I will share my workflow using a variety of software and hardware tools, and photo processing techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop. We will end day two with a second hands-on photo session to apply what you learned from your critique.
This mentoring session is for those with Digital SLR cameras and a general understanding of how to use their equipment. I will not be covering the basics of photography.
The growshop™ will take place at a private residence in Campbell, CA (just south of Santa Clara).
